Welcome Back
Hi Again,
Welcome to this week’s edition of The Curious. As Thanksgiving approaches, Toronto’s plant-based scene is offering plenty to look forward to like seasonal pre-orders and cosy community meetups to important conversations about animal advocacy and the future of food.
We’ve also got a few things worth keeping an eye on, including a possible new bakery location, a Michelin-recognised restaurant, and a $10 combo in Kensington Market that might be one of the best cheap eats in the city.
So whether you’re looking for your next meal, making weekend plans, or simply trying to stay connected to what’s happening around the city, there’s lots to be curious about.
Rumour has it 👀

Bad Attitude Bread is exploring a second location in Toronto’s east end. Logan (the owner) dropped some pretty interesting news on Instagram Stories this week: the bakery needs more space but plans to keep its original location. A Leslieville space is currently being considered, though nothing has been confirmed yet. I’m hoping it will be near Honey’s and Soy Boys. What a trio that would make!
Free cinnamon roll, anyone?

Cinnaholic is celebrating National Cinnamon Roll Day on Sunday, October 4, with a buy-one-get-one-free offer on cinnamon rolls. The free roll must be of equal or lesser value, with a limit of one free roll per person; valid in-store only.

Toronto Vegan Meetup’s small-group gathering offers plant-based teas, vegan treats from Bad Attitude Bread, and relaxed conversation over Thanksgiving weekend. Everyone is welcome, but spots are limited.
Worth noting

Gia has officially made the Michelin Guide for the fifth consecutive year! The plant-forward Italian restaurant credited its team and thanked guests for their continued support. A pretty impressive streak for a vegan-friendly spot.
Consider this your Thanksgiving reminder 🥧
Thanksgiving is coming up, which means it’s time to start planning and pre-ordering your vegan feast. A couple of fully vegan spots have opened their pre-orders already…
ALK is offering a 100% vegan Thanksgiving menu for pickup from October 9–11, including Mushroom & Lentil Wellington, stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and pumpkin brownie. $35 for one and $135 for a family feast of four. Pre-orders can be made by emailing [email protected].
Bad Attitude Bread is also taking pre-orders through October 5 for pickup or delivery on October 10–11. The holiday menu includes a vegan turkey and stuffing Danish, pumpkin pie, maple apple pecan sticky buns, brioche stuffing, pumpkin-spiced scones, tiramisu, and more. Quantities are limited, and I always pre-order a pumpkin pie, so consider this your friendly reminder to start planning ahead.
What’s on our plate

The Dish: Caramel Tofu-Seitan Banh Mi Combo
Location: Saigon Lotus - 6 St. Andrew St.
Price: $10 (and yes, that includes a pop)
Finding a genuinely great $10 lunch (without Plant Curious deals) in Toronto is getting harder and harder, but this is definitely one of them.
Saigon Lotus’ Banh Mi Combo is one of my personal go-to cheap eats in the city.
